Serving as a development intern at Daystar provides behind the scenes learning about non-profit management strategies as they relate to staff and donor communications, day to day operations, marketing & PR, as well as the opportunity to work alongside and learn from Daystar’s development team.

From making popcorn and spice tea each morning to welcoming our newest clients, being an intern at Daystar is all about practicing hospitality! When not welcoming clients, interns also help out with donor relations, doing everything from data management to delivering thank you gifts and notes.

fundraising & event planning

Our development team is always busy prepping for our next fundraising event, and interns are no exception! Fall interns help with The Bike and Hike Thing and Evening in December, Spring interns help prep for Hopetown, and our summer interns help make our songwriters in the round fundraising event happen.

testimonials

I worked with the development staff and the counseling staff and it was perfect for me to split my time in both areas…not many internships let you do both. Even now in my first job out of college, I find myself constantly using the knowledge and experiences I gained at Daystar from working with volunteers, helping with events, enthusiastically greeting others, and co-leading therapeutic groups.  Daystar includes their interns in everything they can. - Miranda Arstikaitis, Belmont University

One of the things that I admire about this organization is the striking balance they bring between compassion and competence. I learned everything from how to engage with a lower-functioning third grade boy about a bully at school to what time of year is best for planting mums; from search engine optimization of a website to donor management and care. I learned things at Daystar that set the trajectory for my career path…I found a home at the big yellow house, and I bet you could too! - Josh Jeans, Vanderbilt University

Interning at daystar was an experience worth moving to Nashville for the summer. The summer before my senior year, I was trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life: go to grad school for counseling or ministry. Being at daystar day in and day out helped me realize these two career paths were one in the same. From the practical skills of navigating donor databases, to getting to love on the kids at the day camps during the summer, I walked away with so many nuggets to use for my future. - Aubrey Johnston, Auburn University
